What is Classical Education?

Thoroughly Christian.

We believe nothing is neutral, and this includes all parts of education.  Everything either comes from a worldview that acknowledges Christ is King, or it doesn't.  Our commitment to being thoroughly Christian involves more than adding a Bible verse to secular curriculum. All subjects are integrated around the truth that God is the Creator of all that exists, and therefore, all knowledge is interrelated and points back to him.  We want students to learn math, read books, perform music, and study the world like Christians.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.  Proverbs 9:10

Virtuous.

Wisdom is cultivated through meditating on what is good, true,
and beautiful. Students engage with material that shapes not only factual knowledge but also moral imagination.  Character lessons can be learned effectively through good books, especially when read through the lens of the Greatest Book.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.  Philippians 4:8

Proven.

Modern progressive education focuses solely on job training and uses experimental methods. Rather than "student-centered" techniques that leave children blindly searching for truth on their own, classical education recognizes the value of a good teacher to guide and train students. We do not use what is new; we use what is best—not just the best available from this century, but the best that human thought has ever had to offer.

Liberty Classical School will be using curriculum from Memoria Press.

Memoria Press produces Classical Christian education materials for private schools across the nation and homes across the world. It was founded by Cheryl Lowe in 1994 and has developed a comprehensive K-12 curriculum at Highlands Latin School in Louisville, KY, where its award-winning programs are written and field-tested. This means that master teachers have cultivated and approved every page of the Memoria Press curriculum, from math drills to literature guides. A Classical Education is not possible without Latin, and Memoria Press features celebrated Latin programs that begin in Second Grade and continue through graduation.
