Jr. Kindergarten
Jr. Kindergarten offers a gentle introduction to school in a cheerful, Christ-centered environment. It is designed for students one year away from entering Kindergarten, but younger students are admitted on a case-by-case basis. These students attend school two mornings a week–a schedule which provides consistency and still recognizes the great value of playtime at home. The goal is to help students be academically mature while experiencing the joy of learning and the satisfaction of a job well done.
Why is it called Jr. Kindergarten instead of pre-school?
The simple answer is that we do consider this school, not day care or play group that comes before any schooling happens. Students are held to age-appropriately high expectations and contribute to the school culture just like the older students.
As with all of our grades, we are using curriculum from Memoria Press. Everything in the program has been chosen with intentionality. It prioritizes quality content, real books with rich language and beautiful illustrations, and mastering the basics through repetition and recitation.
Subjects include:
Prayer and devotion
Calendar and recitation
Literature
Alphabet
Numbers
Show and tell
Music, poetry, and fine-motor craft enrichments
We want to capitalize on the natural curiosity and enthusiasm of young children by feeding them the stories, rhymes, songs, prayers, and games that have delighted generations. We help them to be “reading-ready” by emphasizing alphabet recognition and letter sounds.
Recitation is a tool used throughout Classical education to build mastery and confidence. Every week, students will add a new question to their morning recitation routine. They start with the alphabet and counting to ten, and progress to skip counting, and naming the vowels, cardinal directions, primary colors, and months of the year. Each student is taught to stand tall and speak clearly. At first, recitation is done as a class, and then students recite individually. This is difficult, but it builds incredible confidence. Being able to recite these facts proves mastery to both the teacher and the student himself. They experience the fulfillment of conquering a hard task.
Our classroom is orderly and structured to promote learning. Students are expected to respect their teacher and classmates. The students always know what is expected of them and there is little free time or opportunity for misbehavior. Of course, anywhere there are people there is sin, and parents are heavily involved in disciplinary situations.

Liberty Classical School is a full-time, private Christian Classical school in Lincoln, NE. We exist to educate children that they may know and love the truth. We partner with parents to establish men and women who glorify God as loyal servants. We equip our students to be formidable adversaries of falsity and all other enemies of God. We believe that the primary end for education is not merely survival, but glory—glory in the truth and Glory to God—the Father, the Spirit and the Son—on Earth as it is in Heaven. Amen
